MATTHEW BACKOWSKI provides specialized expertise in civil business litigation and real estate matters. He has represented a wide variety of clients, including lenders, developers, brokers, receivers, contractors and municipalities, in nearly every type of dispute relating to real estate and business law, with a particular emphasis on commercial contract claims, secured lending transactions, workout agreements, judicial foreclosure, receiverships, and actions related to debt collection and enforcement of creditor’s rights.

Mr. Backowski received his Juris Doctor degree from the School of Law at Pepperdine University in 2001, and is currently admitted to practice law in all State and Federal Courts in California. He is a licensed Real Estate Broker, a member and former chairperson of the Real Property section of the Fresno County Bar Association, and a member of the Business Law section of the California State Bar Association.

Mr. Backowski has been invited to speak at a number of bar association events and seminars, where he has lectured on topics involving real estate litigation and the use of civil provisional remedies. He also serves as a Judge Pro Tempore for the Fresno County Superior Court, and is involved in a number of Central Valley based non-profit organizations.

ATTORNEY
STEPHANIE T. KOKKA focuses her practice on civil litigation and real estate matters, with an emphasis on commercial contract and real estate disputes, as well as transactional lending and real estate development matters. She represents a variety of clients including lenders, developers,
and municipalities.
Ms. Kokka received her undergraduate degree from University of the Pacific, and her Juris Doctor Degree from San Joaquin College of Law in 2016. She is a member of the Fresno County Bar Association, and the Real Property Law sections of the Fresno County and State of California State Bar Associations.
Ms. Kokka is admitted to practice law before all state courts in California, as well as the Northern, Central and Eastern Districts of California.

PARALEGAL
CONNI YOUNGMAN is a paralegal with more than 35 years of experience in business litigation and debt collection matters. Throughout her career, Ms. Youngman has worked on nearly every type of consumer and commercial collection matter, and has extensive experience in judgment enforcement remedies, including personal property civil writs, levies, garnishments and foreclosures. Ms. Youngman received her paralegal certificate through California State University at Monterey Bay, and is a California notary public.
Conni is proud to be a life-long Fresnan and loves to spend time with family and friends.

Michelle Grandalski
PARALEGAL
MICHELE GRANDALSKI is a paralegal with more than 20 years of legal experience supporting attorneys and clients in a wide range of civil litigation and business matters. She assists with case management, discovery, document preparation, client communications, and trial support, and is committed to providing efficient, accurate, and responsive service throughout every stage of a matter.
Ms. Grandalski has extensive experience working in fast-paced legal environments and is known for her attention to detail, professionalism, and ability to manage complex matters with discretion and care. She works closely with the firm’s attorneys and clients to help ensure matters are handled effectively and efficiently.
Ms. Grandalski received her Certificate of Paralegal Studies from Fresno City College and continues to stay current on developments in the legal field in order to provide high-quality support and client service.
Outside of the office, Michele enjoys snow skiing, hiking, and exploring California’s Central Valley.
